Their insights can be valuable in refining your resume. No matter what kind of a job you are looking for, the degree you hold or the industry you want to enter, there are a few technical skills that will literally get you hired if you can demonstrate you are better than average. That is the focus of the next section - the three most important skills in the job market these days.

3 Technical Skills to include in your resume

Programming Languages: Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, or JavaScript is highly valued in various industries, including software development, data analysis, and web development. Highlighting your knowledge of specific programming languages and any relevant projects or coursework can demonstrate your ability to develop software solutions or work with data.

Data Analysis and Visualization: In today's data-driven world, the ability to analyze and make sense of data is crucial. Showcase your skills in data analysis, statistical methods, and working with tools like Excel, SQL, or programming libraries like Pandas or R. Additionally, highlighting your ability to create clear and insightful data visualizations using tools such as Tableau or Power BI can be a strong asset.

Digital Marketing and Social Media Management: As businesses increasingly rely on digital platforms for marketing and customer engagement, showcasing skills in digital marketing and social media management can be advantageous. Highlight your knowledge of SEO (Search Engine Optimization), SEM (Search Engine Marketing), content creation, social media platforms, and analytics tools. This demonstrates your ability to create effective online marketing campaigns and drive audience engagement. Soft skills are also important, if not equally important. If you asked a very experienced HR professional or a business manage, they can easily give you a list of 30 soft skills - you would have heard of all these soft skills during those industry speaker sessions in your colleges. If you are confused about which of these soft skills are important, my suggestion is start with the these three - Communication, Problem Solving and Adaptability. Every other soft skill out there will follow these 3 soft skills.

3 Soft Skills to include in your resume

Communication skills: Effective communication is a highly sought-after skill in the professional world. Highlight your ability to convey information clearly, both verbally and in writing. Showcase experiences where you demonstrated strong communication skills, such as presenting ideas, collaborating in group projects, or writing reports. Effective communication demonstrates your ability to express ideas, work well with others, and convey information to clients, colleagues, or stakeholders.

Problem-Solving Skills: Employers value candidates who can analyze problems, think critically, and develop innovative solutions. Showcase your problem-solving skills by highlighting experiences where you successfully resolved challenges or achieved goals. Discuss your ability to analyze situations, identify alternatives, and make informed decisions. Demonstrating your problem-solving skills exhibits your ability to tackle complex issues and contribute to the success of the organization.

Adaptability and Flexibility: In a rapidly changing work environment, adaptability and flexibility are highly valuable traits. Showcase instances where you adapted to new situations, handled changes, or quickly learned new concepts or technologies. Emphasize your ability to work well in dynamic environments, be open to feedback, and readily adapt to evolving circumstances. Demonstrating adaptability and flexibility shows that you can thrive in diverse work settings and contribute effectively, even in uncertain or changing situations.

Keep examples to support skills ready

Finally, be always interview-ready. Always be aware of who is sitting next to you on the plane, train or bus. You never know whom you could run into. A casual conversation can quickly become an impromptu interview and you want to be ready. That is why I suggest that for all the skills you include in your resume, you should have examples ready to speak about whenever an opportunity arises. Remember to provide specific examples or achievements that demonstrate both soft and technical skills. Use concise and clear language to effectively convey how you have applied these skills in various contexts. Additionally, tailoring these soft skills to the specific job requirements can further enhance their relevance and impact on your resume.
